This item was found on the back of the head block, also known as a bullseye, in the The Guy and Belle House on Fairmount Ave in Downers Grove. It was found in the 1980’s while remodeling the house. In 2025, the house was recognized as a Historic Home by the Historic Home Program.
Through additional research this specific item was found in the original 1897 Catalog Supplement from Lidell and Williams. It was number item 222 on page 7.
A close examination of the item also shows it was sold to “A. R. Heck…”. This aligns with the name of the owner Alfred R Heckman, whose name was found while researching the house history. Heckman and brother-in-law of William Straube, laid out Straube’s Subdivision in 1890, where the house is located.
