Honors and Recognition

The Downers Grove Historical Society honors individuals who have made significant contributions to Downers Grove. Three separate programs focus on historians, pioneers, and citizens at large for their unique contributions.

  • Historian of the Year – recognizes those individuals who have significantly promoted and preserved the history of Downers Grove.
  • Montrew Dunham Award –  recognizes individuals whose significant service and contributions to the Village of Downers Grove have earned them a place in its history, following in the footsteps of noted teacher, author, historian, and community volunteer, Montrew Dunham.
  • Founder of the Year – recognizes those instrumental in the founding of Downers Grove.  The first recipient was Pierce Downer, for whom the village was named.
