Downers Grove Historical Society President Marty Acks will be the featured speaker at the January meeting of the Computer Assisted Genealogy Group of Northern Illinois (CAGGNI), sharing the story of one of our early residents, “Israel Blackburn: A Journey from Enslaved Person to Founder of Downers Grove,” which will take place on Saturday, January 17, at 10 a.m. The talk traces Blackburn’s life—from enslavement, to service in the Union Army, his arrival in DuPage County, and his life in the 19th-century Downers Grove.
This presentation is part of the Downers Grove Historical Society’s ongoing mission to share and preserve the stories that form the foundation of the community.
