Samuel Curtiss was an early settler of Downers Grove. He donated the land for Main Street Cemetery, improved Maple Avenue, was active in the Underground Railroad, and was the first to subdivide his land. He also served in the War of 1812. Samuel Curtiss was recognized as Founder of the Year in 2015.
