The Downers Grove Historical Society would like to recognize our last historic home of 2024. The Historic Home Program is an honorary program that is sponsored by both the Downers Grove Museum and the Downers Grove Historical Society.
You may notice from the picture that this is not even a home. This building at 947 Maple Ave was originally used as a residence but in recent years has been repurposed for commercial use. It still meets the criteria for the program as its origins were as a home.
This building has the distinction of being the third property owned by the Downers Grove Park District to be acknowledged as historic. The other two are on the museum campus.
This home has been assigned the name of The Louis Leibundguth House by the owners. Louis served as a Civil Carpenter for the Village of Downers Grove. We most likely have him to thank for many of the older buildings in the village that are still standing today.
