947 Maple Ave. (Application and tax records) This 19th-century building at 947 Maple Avenue was originally used as a residence but has been repurposed for commercial use in recent years.
The Downers Grove Park District owns this building.
Built circa 1870, this property is one of the earliest homes on Maple Avenue. The original owners of the building were Mary and Samuel Curtiss.
The Louis Leibundguth House is named after the person who lived here in the early part of the 20th century. Louis was the son of Peter Leibundguth, who served in the Civil War. Louis was one of Peter’s thirteen children. Louis moved into the house after the death of his grandfather.
Louis served as a Civil Carpenter for the Village of Downers Grove. His responsibilities included ensuring buildings were safe and built to modern building codes. We most likely have him to thank for many of our historic buildings in the village still being upright and sturdy.
