Amos Root was one of the sons of Abigail Stearns and Martin Root. He is the only child buried in the family plot in the Main Street Cemetery. Amos was born in Vermont in 1820 and moved to DuPage County with his parents when he was a young man. Like his brother Elijah, he also went seek his fortune in the California gold rush. By 1860 he was in the gold rush town of Placerville east of Sacramento. He moved north and by 1867 he was living in Nevada county. He passed away in 1871.
