John Smith was the son of John K. Smith and Eliza Smith. He and his brother Gerald are remembered for their Civil War Service with a brass plaque at the base of their family marker. John served in the 141st Illinois Infantry in Company H. Gerald served in the 156th Illinois Infantry in Company A.
