Mary Alzina Paige came to Downers Grove when she was just 8 years old. Her family was one of the first to settle in Downers Grove. As an abolitionist, her father was active in the Underground Railroad in the area. Mary married Washington Burdett Pratt in 1849. Mary died just after the birth of her third child, an unnamed daughter, who died a short time later. Her husband, remarried and move out of the area.
