Mary and husband Joseph Wells Grannis moved to Downers Grove around 1853 with their first child William John. Two years later she gave birth to a daughter, also named Mary. Sadly the mother died as a result of the childbirth just one day after the birth. Her husband, Joseph, moved back east with the two children and remarried.
