Homeowner Don Sutton with HHP Plaque

In 2025, the John Rehm House earned its place on Downers Grove’s list of Historic Homes, recognized for its architectural significance. Nestled on the charming, one-block-long Ross Court—just west of the bustling downtown and tucked off Carpenter Street—this home offers a striking example of the Minimal Traditional style that emerged in the mid-20th century.

With its clean, boxy silhouette, rectangular footprint, and understated hipped roof, the house blends simplicity with character. A front-facing gable extends over the entryway, lending visual interest and a warm welcome.

The home’s current owner, retired builder Don Sutton, has filled the space with personal history. Known throughout Downers Grove for his craftsmanship, Sutton spent years in the building trade and filled the Rehm House with architectural artifacts he salvaged from across the Midwest. Each piece tells a story, making the home not just a historic landmark—but a living tribute to the region’s architectural heritage.
