Built in 1865, the home at 5427 Main Street, Downers Grove, is the newest addition to the Downers Grove Historical Society’s Historic Home Program. Known as “The Parsonage,” it was originally constructed as the residence for the First Baptist Church’s pastor. Designed in the Greek Revival style, the home has seen additions over the years, yet its original central structure remains clearly recognizable.
The home is also significant for its longtime resident, Helen Kenyon, who lived there from 1872 to 1937 after the property passed into her family’s ownership. Affectionately remembered as “Aunt Helen,” she was admired in the community for her cheerful, generous, and kind spirit. Today, her legacy lives on in the nearby street that bears the Kenyon name.
