This unique Historic Home at 4429 Middaugh Avenue, affectionately known as “The Schoolhouse,” holds a special place in Downers Grove history. Originally constructed as a schoolhouse, the building was relocated to its current site in 1946. Its distinctive architectural features, including the outline of the original main entrance, continue to reflect its educational past.

Although complete records prior to 1949 are unavailable, research and physical evidence strongly suggest that the building once served as a school in the Downers Grove area. Its architectural classification is listed as “Other” due to its non-traditional origins and its later conversion into a residence.

This house is a fascinating example of Downers Grove’s evolving architectural landscape and the adaptive reuse of community buildings.
