After several years of COVID restrictions, the Downers Grove Historical Society was happy to once again present the Living Cemetery program on October 22, 2022.
This annual event honors the settlers buried in the Main Street Cemetery. Since the cemetery was established in 1856 about 100 have been buried here.
Making the Cemetery “living” again is done with the help of the Paper Moon Players (directed by local resident Marilyn Ludwig) and the Living History Interpreters of the 8th Veterans Reserve Corps. (directed by Craig Dorsey). Local residents Joyce Tumea, John Sebastian, Deb Guptill, Bill Kundert, Bernard Kazwick and Isaiah Sheppard also portrayed settlers.
Many came to hear their stories and enjoy the beautiful weather. If you missed this year’s Living Cemetery, don’t worry! We will present it again next October!
