William Straube was the original owner of this home. He was part owner of Van Matre and Straube Piano which originally resided in Downers Grove. He purchased the land from Charles Blodgett in 1890. He had one son, Alfred. The home was built in 1892 and the original address was 114 Fairmount.

The home was sold to Sterling North in 1938. Sterling North was a famous children’s author. He was best known for Rascal, a 1963 bestseller.
