In 1928, the Forest Avenue entrance welcomed 311 students to Downers Grove Community High School, a three-story building with 20 classrooms and an auditorium/gymnasium. In subsequent years, several additions expanded the main building from 158,000 square feet to become a campus of 480,000 square feet, housing over 2,300 students and a variety of learning spaces. The lights of Forest Avenue, ever-burning, illuminate the way for all who walk through its doors. For 80 years, this entrance has symbolized education as “the door of opportunity -the richest gift the community makes to its young people.” May the lights burn bright and the doors remain open for many years to come.
